International Boston Seafood Show

March 30th, 2012

Well, another International Boston Seafood Show has come and gone and with it’s passing, I have a huge bank of photographic images that I created at the show. Not everyone is familiar with the trade show experience, but when you work one, you are responsible for wearing many hats above and beyond just the role of photographer. There is also more than just food, products and people to photograph. The days are long, you start at 8am and work until 5pm on the show floor, walking an average of 12 miles a day, then when you finish on the floor you go back to work downloading images, sorting, culling, charging batteries, making sure your camera gear is ready to go the next day. However, the buzz, excitement and different way of seeing an event makes it all worth it!!

Below is a sample of the different types of photography taken at a food trade show, from the food, the people, the equipment, but if you’d like to see the whole portfolio, including some snazzy iPhoneography too, check out all the images here: http://www.bostonseafood.com/IBSS_photography_2012/webguide/index-new.html

The Journey to the Int’l Boston Seafood Show

March 10th, 2012

It’s that time of year again. The International Boston Seafood Show and the New England Food Show start tomorrow, Sunday, March 11 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Boston, MA.

I think this is my fourth year doing photography for the show, but this is the FIRST year  that I’ve been tasked with also creating imagery for the video wall inside the North Lobby of the convention center. And what a wall it is!!! It is 159 feet wide by 12 feet high and, to quote the Advantage Boston website “just takes your breath away. I saw it for the first time last week. When I stood in front of it, I felt tiny.” Oh yeah, that’s pretty much how I felt!

The other thing I felt was a great sense of pride that my photography will be showcased on such an impressive scale throughout the duration of the show (March 11-13 2012)! The photos were created at a previous show and go through a rotation of six images each for both the International Boston Seafood Show and the New England Food Show. Below is a sample of the work on display (I also created the graphics for the middle screen and did graphic work for the outside marquee columns!). The video wall was installed in July 2011 and what an honour to be the first photographer to represent the International Boston Seafood Show and New England Food Show in this way!

Pre-baby Portraits

March 2nd, 2012

I was asked by a 38 week pregnant woman to create portraits of her baby bump and  time was of the essence. I usually do a reconnaissance mission to scope out light, backgrounds, props, all that goes into a photo shoot, but this one had to be spontaneous due to the fact that the baby could be born any day. The following images were taken on the day of the portrait session, the baby was born the day after!
